Digital transformation is fast becoming the lifeblood of every business, every industry.

Businesses today must innovate around how work gets done, where it gets done, and the devices and solutions needed to enable it all. Simply put, the way we work is changing—remote and hybrid work are becoming the new norm and they can bring many benefits, its not without its challenges:

  • Increasingly complex IT environments due to number of new devices connecting to the corporate network
  • Need to provision and deploy devices remotely without sacrificing security
  • Pressure to scale, bring services to market faster, and reduce costs
  • Teams need flexible, productive, and secure work from home options.
  • Growing cyberthreats require more advanced security across devices, users, apps and their data.

Microsoft Surface Sustainability

A product lifecycle approach to sustainability

From design to manufacturing to recovery

Sustainability and circularity are embedded in Surface devices. They are ENERGY STAR certified, increasingly repairable, easy to update, multifunctional (reducing the need for multiple devices), and can be recycled at the end of their life.

More sustainable user experiences

A technology strategy built around Surface can be a net positive for carbon reduction. Better digital experiences reduce commuting and the need to fly to meetings.

Packaging innovation

The newest generation of Surface product packaging uses FSC-certified paper and fiber and contains less than 1% of plastic by weight. And our new packaging is ~99% recyclable on average.

Helping customers meet their goals

Our goal is for Microsoft to be carbon negative and achieve 100% recyclable devices and packaging by 2030. Our commitment empowers customers to reduce their tech waste and carbon footprint.

Designed to reduce environmental impact

Microsoft’s Surface devices are integral to achieving the company's sustainability commitments by reducing carbon emissions and waste in our products and packaging designs.

Responsible materials

Our premium keyboards are wrapped in Alcantara® material, which is certified CarbonNeutral ® and gives Surface Signature Type Covers and Keyboards texture and a durable finish.

Refurbishment and recycling

Microsoft supports multiple reuse, refurbishment, and recycling programs around the world that cover our consumer devices, batteries, and packaging.

Durability and repairability

Surface Pro 8 is designed to last with more replaceable components and service options.
