Think beyond the box

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

Think Beyond the Box

It’s easy to be led by your wallet when looking to buy a printer or MFP and get drawn to cheaper devices because of lower upfront costs.

This is where Kyocera’s long-life drum technology comes in.

Kyocera is a more economical and eco-friendly choice. Their expertise in ceramic technology means their ultra long-life drums last at least twice as long as conventional types. As a result, toner is the only consumable that most customers will ever need to change.

Benefits

  • Extremely low running costs
  • Less waste to landfill compared to all-in-one toner and drum cartridges.
  • More affordable – approach keeps toner costs to a minimum
  • Offsets any small premium you may have to pay on the purchase price of the device
Probrand – Product savings.

True Cost of Printing

In reality ‘cheap’ products are often more expensive to run.

It’s crucial to take running costs into account when purchasing a new printer or MFP to understand the true impact on your budget.

Think beyond the box and take a little more time to consider the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).

Long-term TCO

The true cost of printing will depend on many factors, most of which relate to the volume printed - the cost and yield of toner, maintenance, and the cost of replacement parts, including the printer drum.

All of this will vary by device, manufacturer, and supplier, but once you have this information you will be better equipped to make the right decision.

TCO Checklist

  • Step 1 - Average Monthly Print Volume (AMPV).
Work out your AMPV – estimate how much you print in a day and multiply it by 20 working days in a month to get your AMPV.
  • Step 2 - Shortlist Products
Make a shortlist of products for consideration based on specifications, functionality and price.
  • Step 3 - Think running costs and TCO
    • + Replacement Toners - How long do they last (specified in pages) and how much do they cost?
    • + Consumables – what else is required for each device and how often do these components need to be changed? (This could include image drum units, fuser units, transfer belts, paper feed rollers etc.)
  • Step 4 - Service & Warranty costs
    • + Don’t forget to factor these costs in
    • + Remember using anything other than genuine toner may result in print quality and performance issues.
    • + You can buy a Kyocera extended warranty within 18 months of your purchase date.
